Thank You

A Poem

By Sara WilsonPublished about a year ago • 2 min read

For you, I would be anything

There's not a place I wouldn't go

I would repair every part of me

Until the best version is the only one you get to know

But I know you'd never ask

You've embraced every piece of me

You've witnessed every version

Even the parts I never wanted you to see

You've hugged the little child

I kept tightly locked away

The one I kept telling to be quiet

Because no one liked what she had to say

You've consoled the angry teenager

I kept hidden in a drawer

The one I couldn't seem to get rid of

even when no one liked her anymore

You found me as a broken woman

With a past I wish I could erase

Told me I deserved to be happy

Told me it was safe to take up space

You helped me open up the doors

No matter how painful it would be

Kissed away every tear I cried

You helped finally set me free

You loved the broken pieces harder

Kept them safe and without harm

You pulled my walls down carefully

So as not to cause alarm

You put them back together slowly

And you listened to them speak

Forged them into something unbreakable

Convinced them they were never weak

Because you saw my cold blank stare

But you felt the fire deep inside

You shined your light through all the darkness

Leaving me nowhere left to hide

To the man who came after

The betrayal, the heart break, the mess...

The one who finally saw my worth

And never made me second guess

Thank you for being patient

With a heart that flinched at love

Thank you for always coming back

Every time my words would push and shove

For never making me explain

Why I cry when someone raises their voice

For forcing me to see my worth

For not even making it a choice

You've walked boldly through the damage

You didn't help to cause

You love me unconditionally

And without a single pause

You love me in a way

That doesn't feel like something's owed

You never rushed the healing

But reassured me that it showed

You did everything they didn't

And you did it without trying to fix me

You just stayed. Steady. Safe. Strong

Even when it wasn't easy

Thank you for doing all the things

You never had to do

Thank you for making me believe in love

And showing me it's true

Gratitude
