Talkin' Turkey Burgers

Celebrating National Burger Day (August 27) with an abecdarian poem about turkey burgers

By Clyde E. DawkinsPublished 2 months ago • 1 min read

Always lean, never greasy on the grill

Better than beef when you want something light

Cranberry relish or chipotle mayo—your call

Dripping juices catch in the bun just right

Everyone gathers when these hit the plate

Fresh thyme, sage, and garlic folded in

Ground turkey mixed with onion and a pinch of heat

Healthy protein that still tastes like a treat

In a toasted brioche or a soft potato roll

Juicy center, seared crust, never dry or dull

Ketchup, mustard, or both—no one will judge

Lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion stacked high

Melted Swiss or American cheese if you choose

No heavy aftertaste, just clean satisfaction

On the backyard grill or a hot cast-iron skillet

Pepper, salt, and smoked paprika do the work

Quite the weeknight hero or cookout star

Relish that extra crunch from a quick pickle slice

Seasoned well, they never need much else

Turkey shines when you treat it with respect

Utterly simple, utterly good

Vegetables piled on until the bun can barely close

With avocado or a fried egg for extra richness

X-tra toppings welcome—go wild, no rules

Yum in every bite, from first to last

Zesty, savory, and ready whenever you are
