Take Me to the Garden

It was the one place we knew peace.

i thought you were a mirage at first glance,

the way you rippled in and out of sight,

but your smile left my stomach to dance,

this quiet moment shared by kiss of night.

*

i thought you were my secret at first tell,

since I didn't think one would believe me,

but they knew you, clear as a morning bell,

and you were no longer my only glee.

*

but the garden was ours, it's clear and true,

as you parted weeds and sang songs to birds—

all manner of things to run me clean through—

and I listened since I relished your words.

*

water lilies perched on your special pond,

and ours would be a never parted bond.
