The Prevalence Of The Internet. Content Warning.
The prevalence of the Internet is changing our behavior towards town and city life, with traditional high street stores becoming less popular. This is thought to be due to addiction to technology, combined with distractions that connectivity brings us. The basic principle behind memory is that the more a piece of information is repeated and thought about in our short-term memory, the stronger it is stored within our long-term memory. As we are becoming more addicted to our smartphones, we are less able to focus on information that's actually important. However, technologies such as the Internet have always enabled us to focus more effectively. Technology is clearly having an impact on the way our brains work, but in a good way. For example, inventions like washing machines have freed up time so people can be more productive, and the ability to communicate and find information much faster online has given us extra mental capacity for other things. It's a good idea to be mindful of how much time you're spending on distractions each day, and periodically unplug.Technology has clearly affected the way our brains work, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. For example, inventions have always enabled us to focus less on one thing and use the extra time for something else. Similarly, decreasing the amount of time we spend on screens can help keep our brains active and malleable.
