SURRENDER

Once the waves have crashed

And our hopes have been dashed

When we no longer have fears of failing

When our limbs stop flailing

And we finally learn to float

Or reach out to the boat

Offering its lifeline

Once the fire consumes

And we retreat to our rooms

And we spread ourselves wide

With nothing to hide

Like the grasses waving

On the open prairie

When we find sanctuary

And create our own shrines

Of peace

Of release

Of surrender
