Sunset on the River Waal

The river was a pool of orange light

As if ’twas set afire by sunset’s glow

As setting sun chose to defy the night

By burning bright as it sunk fast below

A glimmering horizon where they met:

That fiercely bold and vibrant setting sun

With distant bridge’s gentle silhouette;

A moment where two beauties became one.

And in the foreground, by the riverbend

Awash in light like that of smoldering embers

The riverboat was anchored; it did lend

The final touch that fondly I remember.

This stunning scene I always will recall

Of glowing sunset on the River Waal.
