my heart tugs

but I'm tugging back

I admit I'm impressed

with its stamina

tenacity

scope

hope

strength

stubbornness

but it's for naught

in that place now

no quitter

no matter

the price

I tried

I cried

a part of me

died

I've prayed

every which way

to Sunday

every day

for my heart to

get a grip

and let go and

let the sun

set on it.
