Sunflower Eyes

#VocalNPM

By Katie LindforsPublished 8 years ago • 1 min read

I wish I could have met the sunflower eyed boy,

that laughed with his heart,

and not to fill a clawing void.

I wish I could have loved the sunflower eyed teen,

maybe there would be feeling

when he mindlessly sings.

I wish I could have saved the sunflower eyed man,

he could have found comfort

in my relentless helping hands.

But time took too long,

ticking and ticking,

and instead of

a friend,

a lover,

a savior,

I became a victim.

Traveling on dark roads,

breaking speed limits,

drinking too much,

and entertaining a tempest.

I fell in love with your sunflower eyes,

wrote lines until I thought I was hollow,

and even when I thought I was done,

your absence was still hard to swallow.

The man I loved was a figment,

created by the love of other women,

morphed into someone that appeared consistent,

but it was all a façade,

I’m an eye-witness.

He never meant to trick,

or scam,

or con.

Because the saddest thing is,

the sunflower eyed man

couldn't love me

until I was gone.
