In a dark room, I am the light.
Bright and yellow, I illuminate
Despite these blackout shades.
I bend towards the sunlight,
Yet there is no sun in sight.
Oh
I grasp at the gleaming ball of energy,
Only to find the pitch black gloom.
The oxygen scarce,
My body heavy,
The only remedy awaits beyond these walls.
Blue skies, bright yellow sun, puffy white clouds,
Showers only the heavens can produce.
Pleas for a slight kiss of light.
Outside is where I belong.
Yet feelings of banishment and abandonment,
It overcomes me.
It conquers all aspirations to bloom.
Deeper I bend into the abyss of my isolation.
No deliverance for me.
Blue skies, bright yellow sun, puffy white clouds.
Now all shades of grey.
A sunflower in a dark room,
Dull and brown, I concede
On account of these blackout shades.
