An Epic Battle

For those who think that war is but a game,

I now present a battle of repute

Though no one knows precisely who's to blame,

The soldiers felt the malice taking root.

*

My squad was dressed in camouflage of green

And those we faced wore street clothes of their clan

Prepared, our guns were loaded on the scene

"Vict'ry, or go down fighting," was our plan.

*

The heat of summer added to the stress

But we had trained for most contingencies

The battle rage was taken to excess

And sorties prompted many casualties.

*

The rain of ammo ceased, the conflict done

Our squirt guns empty, everyone had won!

Disclaimer: This is meant as a fun poem, written in traditional sonnet form and not to make light of actual war. I have nothing but respect for those who serve their countries in the military around the world. May peace reign.
