Today I attended a summer-themed haiku workshop at the Biscuit Factory Gallery (Newcastle upon Tyne) hosted by the poet Leila Hussein. I have never been one for the Haiku; I have dabbled in them occasionally, but after today's session I have a better understanding of the history, the form, and the beauty of creating within a structure. These are all first drafts, and I will be returning to them. My favourite is Sandcastle.

Leila's next workshop is in November: https://www.thebiscuitfactory.com/workshops/christmas-haiku-poetry-with-leila-hussein/

Push

The Summer pushes

Springtime backwards allowing

Cold to return soon

Transition One

Nature's flowers buzz

Yellow sunlit petals burn

Fall groundward with love

Transition Two

The daylight hours are

now lengthening our breathing

before restraint sits

Sandcastle

Sugared lips kiss froth and foam

Sandcastle sunlight

memories for tomorrows

Workshop

Summer haiku session

Words develop from quiet space

Mind slowing downwards

Life (in response to an image from Gracia magazine of a model)

Light across her face

Performance fronting darkness

Duty versus life

'Found' Haikus from sentences from a page of Gracia magazine

Untitled

She struck me as warm

Serious and full of grace

Take over the world

Untitled

She didn't know it

The aftermath of a move

Running out, closing

Untitled

The last fling before

Every frog we kiss is our

Happy ending time

Haiku
