How does one beat the summer blues?

Every time I think I am happy summer comes around

And I realize I never had the slightest clue.

How can one be so sad with the sun shining down on their skin?

This foul mood feels like a mortal sin.

I cancel plans with friends because

It takes all my energy to roll out of bed and brush my teeth

For once- can I be happy during the summer? Please, God Please?

The summer tourists crowd the sidewalk on my way to work.

I think to myself, “How can one even enjoy the beach in this type of heat?”

For now, I’ll just keep up this routine.

I’ll lay in my dark room

Staring at my phone screen

I’ll wake up at noon, and tell myself “ I will do better tomorrow.”

But how can I if all summer brings is sorrow?

If I open my window to let the sunlight in will I beat the summer blues?

If I make homemade lemonade will I beat the summer blues?

If I text an old friend to catch up will I beat the summer blues?

If I turn on my fan will I beat the summer blues?

If I have a summer movie night will I beat the summer blues?

Can someone, anyone- provide me with a hint?

As long as I keep hope, I know autumn will come again.
