Summer Arrived While You Were Asleep

5/16/22

I’m still writing about October and I don’t know if I will ever stop

because it still rains almost every day the sun

shines seldom here except today I woke up and summer

arrived while you were asleep next to me

with your legs draped over mine in safety and I can’t remember

if I left the coffee brewing from last night but

I can’t find it in me to break this barrier we have created

and is it not odd how our leaves sway together in this breeze

fabricated from the nectar of lilies and the ache in my knees

keeps me awake some nights

so I will light the candle we chose together and imagine

you are draped here instead of my curtains and my melting skin
