June bugs bobbing in the lamppost glow
On summer nights, so long ago
The days I never thought to lose
Now the flickering of a faulty fuse
Back then I truly had believed
That all my goals could be achieved
And all my quests once I grew tall
Lead to gardens hidden over walls
And thinking of those summer days,
I wonder where I lost my way?
What turn I took, what moment when
I’d passed the point I could go back again
(And did I ever even have the chance
To pick my tangled, graveled path?)
My inbox fills, yet hope still waits
For magic, travel, locked garden gates
Why do I let myself pretend?
Never mind, I’ll just hit send
A robin lingers on a tree
But I do not think he waits for me
My inbox waits, I move to click
For this is real life
This is it.
