Christmas kissed the world,

ballerina buds now twirl;

springtime love unfurls.

Author's Note: The lovely transition that takes place between winter and early spring has always enamored me, and I really wanted to create a haiku that brought the beauty of this magical time of year to life.

Fuchsias are popular, hanging flowers that are brightly colored (usually red, purple, or violet-red in hue) and are adored around the world for their charming resemblance to dancing ballerinas.

While they are known by various names that call to the art of ballet, my Nana always used to simply call them "ballerina flowers".

Ballerina flowers are wonderful and effective attractions for hummingbirds. My Nana - being an avid lover of "hummies" - always had a deck full of hanging pots bursting with these lovable blossoms to help welcome them into her yard.

Whenever I think of or see ballerina flowers, I am overcome with nostalgia. They are one of the many things that have "time capsuled" my childhood in my heart and in my mind.

I often imagine springtime decorating the trees with blossoms the same way that twinkle lights adorn the bare branches in the dead of winter. In my mind, the idea of combining Christmastime with springtime was heavenly. I hope you feel the same! 🥰

Also, the Sugar Plum Fairy was always my favorite. :) 🧚‍♀️✨

    Oh wow, this was really nice! I loved the explanation afterwards, I had never heard them called ballerina flowers, but I love that name! It is a fascinating transition from winter to spring, you captured it beautifully.
