He should’ve been able to stash most of it in his savings jar. Instead, he’d blown $27 on a sugar-fueled spree. “This has to stop,” Terry muttered, staring at the jar on his desk. The money he’d deposited barely jingled when he shook it.
He sat down with his notebook and did the math. If he kept wasting cash on sweets, he wouldn’t have a car until he was eighteen. Maybe older. “No more candy,” he declared, slamming the notebook shut. “From now on, it’s water and celery sticks.”
For the next week, Terry stuck to his word. He avoided the corner store, steered clear of the snack aisle at the grocery store, and even declined the free cookies at the school cafeteria.
