Distractions

I've come to love them

Seriously, adore them

They've helped me in so many ways over the years

Reduced the time, and energy I had to put into

Addictive, destructive tendencies

Clogging up my waking hours, with less harmful, more wholesome interests and pursuits

Taking my mind elsewhere, away from the damaging filth that resides within its depths

I really can't imagine where I'd be without them, probably still stuck in a rut and suffering

Only problem is - the distractions, in their own right, become unhealthy obsessions

Now the distractions that saved me have transformed into stultifying fixations.

I just recently read Robert Frost’s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and your poem reminded me of that. There's only a thin line between something being a distraction and becoming an obsession. And I tend to cross that line quite a lot, lol! Loved your poem!

Paul, you are so great at these! Dang! My brain won't even let me think in terms of these letter limitations (besides just once) and you are knocking them out of the park every single time! This one is really powerful! Everything can become a distraction. Even the positive things. Well done!

Paul you make such a great point all the while taking a creative twist on the challenge! I find its a hard balance between a helpful distraction and one that turns into a problematic coping mechanism.
