Stubbornness and Persistence

Gives him the ability to survive

Fortunate to survive the night time hours,

Appreciative of the now dawning light,

Plans to sail through the valley of curiosity today,

Has him waiting impatiently for the time to be right.

🌞

Feeling the heated breeze blow across his forehead,

As the world heats under the rising sun,

Clouds cover the azure blue of the morning sky,

Mounting a storm brewing, one that’s destined to come.

🌞

He swallows his pride in an endeavour at peace,

Wishing the confrontation was relegated to the past,

Dreams of grandeur hover upon his future horizon,

Once a resolution to these current obstacles are cast.

🌞

Yesterday was a day of torment in forgiveness,

As he would have preferred to do battle instead,

He has righteousness on his side as he’s well aware,

But he’ll be the bigger man and go where angels fear to tread.

🌞

Try as he might he does struggle to comprehend,

Sandwiched between what’s right and the need to bend,

Peace is not all it’s cracked up to be, it seems,

As his nemesis pushes back whenever he tries to amend.

🌞

He wanders the hallways of agony, shaking his head,

And he whispers quietly under his breath,

“Why must they test my weary patience in this matter,

Do they not realise they are choosing their own death?”

🌞

He’s not normally an antagonist of this life we live,

But everyone has a boiling point in which they’ll explode,

He’s being pushed to his limit, much to his chagrin,

He has certain rights and this time he is owed.

🌞

The light shines brightly through his window,

As the sun shimmers around him in a halo,

Spotlight highlighting the handsome man’s features,

When his perfect smile causes his eyes to glow.

🌞

Picture perfect masculinity,

A sight that’ll see many a female swoon,

It’s why he attempts to tame his now seething anger,

Or his full blown aggression will erupt very soon.

🌞

Again he shakes his head as he decides to walk away,

Disturbing the peace over this issue is totally unnecessary,

And he decides he’ll no longer play the games of his enemy,

Knowing he’ll need to continue to watch his back, to always be wary.

🌞

And with that ultimatum finally put to bed,

He finishes the day with the ease of his disagreement,

When he climbs into bed to partake in his slumber,

His promise to himself to let it go is regrettable but vehement.

🌞

With that conclusion done and dusted, he slips into his dreams,

And traverses the spiritual plane of his existence,

Living the life he was destined to survive,

A fighting warrior of sheer stubbornness and persistence.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
