Struggle

A Poem

What have I got to lose
when it feels like I have nothing at all?

Sold my belongings for a dime
just to get by,
and I still can’t even try
to think of a future
where I don’t struggle,
worry,
and wonder what comes next.

Something breaks down.

A surprise bill.

Oh, I’ve already had my fill
of being sued over past debts.

Aren’t I about due for a win?

All of these losses
bringing me down,
so low I feel like I’ll never
get up off the ground.

Wondering if it would be better
to not be here at all…

Who would miss me
if I said goodbye to it all?

The never-ending struggles
have me wallowing in despair.

Does anyone really even care?

If I told you how miserable I feel,
would you take it personally,
or just tell me to deal?

Or would you sit with me
and listen,
hold me while I cry,
and pick me up,

even if for only
a little while...
