My brain was my worst enemy
On the other side of the wall

There were times I was glued to my bed
The sun was invisible
I was invisible
The world was black

Every night
My eyes were flooded
I used to think it wasn’t okay to cry

But after every cry
I fell asleep
I felt safe

I wish I knew
During those times

The reason
I didn’t give up

I gave myself permission
To be okay

Being okay doesn’t mean failure
It means strength

Strength takes time

This poem is about the dark days, the times I struggle to find my strength. But I realize strength takes time. Strength means being okay; it means not giving up. Keep screaming, because one day there will come a day when you find your strength, and I hope you hold onto it because it's something you will never regret. Strength is a reward to show us how we got here. It shows us that the next time we feel just okay, we've got this. Strength keeps building.
