Strangers

a beginning and an end

Do you still think of me at night

when the distractions of the day

have run their course and you've

texted your last goodnight message

with a winky kiss heart icon?

When you wake with a feeling

you can't quite place and

an echo of times gone that causes

your body to stir.

Do you catch your breath for

but a moment and wonder

why your heart is racing,

thundering out of your

chest?

Do you feel the familiar ache

and trace the memory of my scent

for a flicker of a moment

right before you clamp down into

numbness?

Or has it all faded away into

the abyss you threw a piece of your

soul into;

the very same soul that saw

my spark and recognized it

for its own.

Can you really pretend that we

are Strangers?

Another lie you tell

yourself to be able to continue to

play the game?

Am I so perilous to you now

that you prefer to flee

than allow your eyes to linger

upon my face?

My heart weeps for what you

have turned us into.
