November 25th, in the middle of the night,
I conquered my mother’s uterus, though it was a good fight.
With my earthside appearance, I became sibling number four,
But within a year and 4 days, my mom had one more.
My childhood was a good one, growing up in the mountains of NC,
We had plenty of playmates, out in the snow or up in a tree.
We were creative, mischievous and brave,
Would argue and fight but always forgave.
In Winter, we played all day in the snow,
sledding and then sipping on hot cocoa.
Spring was filled with egg hunts and Easter candy,
Summer was being led around by my oldest brother, the Comanche.
Fall was cozy, leaves and pumpkins all day.
Hikes in the woods, on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Drinking Cleary Canadians while playing Nintendo,
Little Caesars pizza every Friday, then to the movie store we would go.
These moments would become memories,
Caught up in my current life’s daily quandaries.
Swirling together to make up the happy and the sad,
It was a life I loved, I’m so thankful and so glad.
I have stories upon stories that I share every once in a while,
And when I do, I just look back to the past and smile.
