Stop Telling Me What To Do

Seriously... start by looking within you

She felt caged and torn

This was beyond a location to live and being warm

They were trying to control her in a spot she didn't want to be

What would it take for her to finally be free

Look, she was grateful but so, so tired

This game of "all about me" was not how she was wired

Wanting a sense of independence and doing as she pleased

As a forty-something-year-old, that should be a life of ease

Not in her current world, not in this space

Oh, the things she would do to not feel so out of place

Today is a powerful one where your words and thoughts matter

Praying and longing for a life that doesn't require her heart to shatter

Regardless of tomorrow, she is stuck today

Only it's not a movie, it's her entire life that is in play

So wish me luck as I attempt to take back what is mine

"Don't tell me what to do... I am doing just fine!"
