Stop Light

A Poem

Do you see it?

All the color flashing

Bright lights, sirens shrill

Oh, I’ve had my fill

Smell of burnt rubber

Tossed back

Chest is tight

Hoping everything will be alright

Her breath is sour lemonade

Head a cocktail of confusion

Looking over she sees eyes wide

Heart thrumming

Foot on the break the tires screech

Anger flows from flushed cheeks

But she’ll do it again

As she’s done before

Blacking out behind the wheel

How much more will it take her to feel?

The ache inside like a ripple effect

Will it take 'til she shouts and screams?

But she is just a faded memory.
