Drowning the past

I believed that once my eyes could see

I would be released, be truly free

That no one could take the sky from me

Instead, I've plummeted into the sea

🌊🕊️🌊

My view distorted, alas

I float untethered and amass

Hopes and dreams discarded as trash

A sinking island built from my indelible past

🌊🕊️🌊

By the light of the silvery moon

Flowers wilt and crystals bloom

Every night dream shadows loom

Blanketing heart and mind with gloom

🌊🕊️🌊

Mired in uncertainty

I swim past the breakers of insanity

Conjuring moments of serenity

Erased, my past identity

I often find that shows, music, and even art I used to enjoy hold an entirely new meaning now that I remember more of my past. My husband and I started up the sci-fi show Firefly a few days ago, something we have watched through several times, but I can't get through the theme song without crying.
