Still,

A poem

I’ll soon be

out of the way again,

-

But just for now

can you allow me

this one moment of peace?

-

Just this space

to breathe in,

if only for a second.

-

A worn and weak perception

of all of time and the

staggering distance

and everything between the two:

-

Of how a thousand miles away

love waits and smiles

but here is nowhere to be seen,

-

Other than on brightened phone screens

and buried photographs, lost in

wooden drawers, gathering dust.

-

It has all been the same here

for far too long

the same faces, the same clothes,

the same drumming

in my often bleeding eardrums,

the same clock

ceaselessly ticking,

-

The same hunt for something better

something more

than this handful

of sand

draining itself through

the gaps between my skeletal fingers,

this barely clutching,

wearied hand.

-

Scattered sounds

in empty lands

before barely opened eyes.

-

Scattered souls

in concrete jungles

before ever darkening skies.

-

A still

snow globe

on an empty mantlepiece.

-

Unmoved

for so many years.

Unenthused,

emotionless,

only ever

shedding tears.

-

Still,

watching time

pass by,

-

the same

for years.
