Stereophonic

A break in a quiet room, A front door left open

A day worn long, A weight held on shoulders

A mind heavy, A body weary, A soul tired

Shoes abandoned on tile

Socked feet across hardwood

Cork slipped from a glass opening

Barrel aged bourbon whiskey

Poured in waterfalls over ice

Bitter spirits playing on a tongue

Inebriation slipping warm

Into a blood stream

Hushed anticipation hanging heavy

Charged particles coming to life

LED lights illuminating a night

Electric whirs coming alive inside circuits

Another sip, another heartbeat

Vinyl sliding from a cardboard sleeve

A needle, A mechanical lowering

A static crackle from speakers

Acoustic suspension holding a first note

George Harrison whispering, my sweet lord

Vintage sound resonating calm

Pressure from an outside world, fading

Peace from a stereophonic escape

Carrying away the everyday

Etta James, the Lumineers

Deftones, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones

Concerts every Friday, to forget a week

Every Sunday, to forgive a soul

Single Barrel Jack on request

Tequila with a lime, Vodka on the rocks

If you like,

A noise as she enters the room

A flutter deep inside, A familiarity

A hand slipping in mine, A look between lovers

Two bodies moving together in time

Memories of first meetings playing between

Two hearts,

Another Saturday night spent

Falling in love

Elton John, The Supremes

Post Malone, Lake Street Dive

Conversations started, Laughs given

Smiles held, best friends sharing a life

My lips against hers, our kids interrupting

Silly dances on young legs, YouTube videos

Played through Bluetooth adapters

Bridges built between generations of music

Nights lost to audiophile soundtracks

Records spun at thirty-three

Revolutions per minute

Time slowed to a moment

This was soul capturing! It was moving to go through the evolution of not only music but how it's playing and how a life is made, with music as the companion/ background sound to something so amazing! I have that heart palpitating feeling you get after watching a home video, the nostalgia and reminder of how great life used to be but also how it built into how great it is now. Great work Will!! This was an emotional piece for me and I am all here for it!
