Walking in the darkness

Matching every step I take

Glancing over shoulder

A feeling that I can't shake

Tapping on the pavement

Slow and steady heel

Is that just a shadow?

Or a shadow of what's real?

Lamp posts at twenty paces

Counting every single step

Clutching fists, unflinching

Shallow trembling breath

There was just a whisper

A pause before the hush

A waiting for the movement

A yearning just to rush

Frozen now in shambles

Wishing for the sun

Is standing still the answer?

Or should she start to run?

A step or two move forward

You have to make it home

What was a woman thinking

Taking this road alone?
