Stayed in a Maze

31 days

Got pushed in with bound eyes

Snatched from another time

Lost upon entry

-

Apple butter cinnamon rolls serenade me

Coaxing me out of my cower

My nose corrals me down a path that is misting oven warmth

-

Before I can find comfort in the food

The road is rendered dead by stones sprouting from dirt

-

I want to retrace my steps

To get back to Start

Or

To escape to the land of an earlier time

-

But my guide was stripped from the air

-

So

I unshroud my eyes

-

Cold spots erect illusions

Fear shuffles over me

Like rats playing tag in abandoned homes

-

I bear it

With my blood perspiring

And a slick film of cold sweat oiling my skin

I meander down the steeled, chilled walls

On the type of walk that converses with the elements for understanding

The curtness of the wind

The solidity of the darkness

And the glow of the moon

Eased the resistance out of my body

Slumber greeted me

-

I awoke on a mattress of elephant ear sized orange, yellow, and red leaves

Marveled at corridors lined with fluffy blankets

Lit a sweet potato candle

As I made my way toward the noisier path

With mechanical clothing racks for walls

I peruse through cardigans, trench coats, bomber jackets, sweater dresses...

Until...

I slip into a Catwoman costume

Turn around to meet a mirror

And the maze has vanished

November's got me now.
