Stay Thee Behind Me

A Poem by Kyle Manzione

By Kyle ManzionePublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Why is everyone telling me

He is not behind me

I know

He is there

Wretchedly insatiable

Famine of worth

His great sword hungers

Wage war at the base of my throat

Wages of sin in the pit of my stomach

With sordid crown with bow drawn

His conquest of Myself

Paints death upon his visage

Fetid dread leaks from my heart

Doom scrawled upon walls of my skull

In lonely twilight his miasmic breath stings my skin

Gaunt agony that craves

Fingers of Gehenna draw nearer upon me

I know his name

As he knows mine

He is there

I can feel him

All I can be

Is

Just

Out

Of reach
