Static in Silence
When you can't escape the silence: A villanelle
The static fills the silence in the room,
A thin, cold whisper threading something new,
A broken signal trying to break through.
It drifts like fog, a slow encroaching gloom,
A trembling shadow staining every view,
The static fills the silence in the room.
It curls around the dark like some old wound,
A pulse that flickers pale instead of true,
A broken signal trying to break through.
It haunts the quiet corners where I bloom,
A ghostly hum that chills me as it grew,
The static fills the silence in the room.
It echoes faint, a warning of the doom
That rides the hiss no matter what I do,
A broken signal trying to break through.
And still I listen, caught inside its loom,
For something lost that once I almost knew,
The static fills the silence in the room,
A broken signal trying to break through.
