Enjoy The Police as you read. (I jokingly call this "The Stalker Song!")

*

Perhaps the shortcut through the field

Was not wise -

Especially on a dark, moonless night.

*

I feel a presence.

I know not

Who

- Or what -

Stalks.

I dare not look.

My ears detect every sound -

The creak of a distant windmill;

The rustling grass;

My footsteps;

Every breath I take.

No sound from behind,

Yet I know

Someone

- Or something -

Follows.

My pupils dilate,

Taking in every dark shadow.

My mind imagines every dark possibility.

Will I be attacked?

Injured?

Killed?

My body shrinks upon itself,

Hoping for insignificance, invisibility.

I feel the presence

Closer

It won't be long now.

Closer

Closer

Then...

Darkness.
