Stagnant

Still

By Andrew SchraderPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

Still, murky water engulfs my body in these hypnotic hands

Bronze fingers dig deep scars into my rib cage, trapping my torso

The pain making me weep, and I wait for a chance to stop the low

Bluejoint covers my chest, wrapping around me as it starts to grow

Sludge sticking to my skin, another’s touch comes from its shadow

Seeking anything to grasp, to keep me afloat, I can't let go

Maybe I can just reach out to that branch from the pussy willow

A little change and a stable, firm grip keeps me from dying slow

It’ll keep me from drifting, but I still feel the pull of these wetlands
