Stagnance of Spirit

(Inspired by "Postponement of Self" - Laura Riding)

By Darnum BarnumPublished 9 years ago 1 min read

I will not listen to this siren song.

Endless wails of beckoning—

And pleading

“Just, get on with it”

It seems to say—

Day in, night out—

But no!

It makes me ache on every limb.

I can not simply leave this body.

In dreams, I can—

In dreams, I can do as many a thing

That the gods in heaven do on a whim.

But here, in reality, I am stuck

Under my own goddamn volition;

Sometimes I can barely control it

And it hurts

And it preys on me.

They said progress doesn’t happen overnight.

Well,

I say,

All I want, is to wake up one morning

And feel free,

And feel light.

I want submerged words to penetrate me

With such a passion and feeling

That I will know the next morning,

Upon Wake,

That my Gut is still strong.

The internal device that waits inside...

inside someone who is more than ready

to throw away their apathetic musings.
