The black cat scratches at your window.

Golden orange pierces through beige curtains.

Your calendar flaps its glossy page;

The past of September — forgotten,

October peers from beneath

bringing forth nostalgia.

That old familiar smell,

Pumpkin spice.

You wander down your street.

Haunted air, crisper than yesterday.

Jack-o'-lanterns line wooden porches;

appearing magically overnight.

Autumn leaves painted brown,

The crunch beneath your feet

dampened by a puddle.

The streets, unusually still.

An unkindness of ravens croaks;

from the furrowed branches above.

Further down the road,

past the house that moans and groans,

A white ghost floats in the town square.

The shop windows brim with spooky décor.

It's that time again.

The season that howls with witches,

skeletons and werewolves.

It creeps over you.

Eerie yet warm.

Allow it to grip you;

Pulling you into its magic.

Congratulations,

You've officially entered October.
