Spirits In The Wind

Carved Into The Marrow

***

The grass leans in the breeze

Listing out of the way

Of the petrified giants

Now asleep in the plains

Paths seldom passed

Feel the sense one is waking

Faces now cast

Telling tales of what's coming

Names on the stones

Melancholic and brutal

Bucolic and proud

Rarest flowers at a funeral

Watchers of the world

Finding rest in the silence

Flesh and bone turned

Displaying nature's resilience

Decades may pass

Still they wait, unhindered

For when time's at its last

Humanity's spirit is splintered

The trees hide their feet

Roots keeping them steadfast

Knowing one day we will meet

Reunited as outcast

The wind sings the songs

And the clover keeps secrets

But it won't be too long

Until the bridge runs beneath us

Rising out of the sea

And the cliffs that contained them

Calling the spirit in me

To learn to strengthen the stem

Spirits in the wind

Call our names when the rain falls

Learning the ways to transcend

As a stone in the squalls
