Spilled

A Poem

She picked

Cheerios up

Off of the floor

Fighting through

The pain and tears

They say you don’t

Cry over spilled milk

But this was something more.

She carried with her

The pain

The loss of a limb

But something more

The loss of a feeling

That made her safe

Until he came in

And made her feel

Whole again.

Her eyes spoke

Of the things spoken

But more deeply

Of the words she could

Not speak.

The one who had

Once claimed to love

Her

Stripped so much from

Her

But he never

Counted on her strength

And that unwavering faith.

It would have

Been easy

For her to be

Blind to the blessings

But even in pain

She saw what

She had

And forgot to

Cry over all

That was gone.

She sat on the

Floor

Tears in her

Eyes

Sometimes it sneaks

Up on you

The grief over

The little things

And the ones

That aren’t always so

Little.

Amongst all the

Broken pieces

The spilled cheerios

She saw something else

Too the gift

He had given her

The one who had

Truly loved her.
