He didn't attend the ceremony,

wasn't even invited: we were strangers

who hadn't met

until

I walked out of my reception to the

ladies' room

in my ivory satin gown with

light beadwork

on the bodice. A man

(Spiderman)

in the lobby, coming in

from his car,

complimented

the beautiful bride

(me).

I invited him in

for a glass of champagne,

oblivious

to his identity.

He accepted

and joined the party.

When my husband and I left

for our honeymoon,

to Baltimore

for his son's piano recital

the next day,

my dashing groom turned to me

and asked,

"How do you know Spiderman?"

I said I didn't.

He replied that anyone

who saw me,

drinking champagne

with Stan Lee

would disagree.
