A beautiful fall day in the country

She made pineapple upside down cake
Reminding me of my mother as she would bake
she made the same cake until we all couldn't take
it anymore. Can you imagine that, she couldn't shake
her making of pineapple upside down cake!

I told my friend that story to say there are cons and pros
to pineapple upside down cake. It is beautiful and yet it is on the no's
list for me, you see as I've given up most sugar, and she did expose
the fact that she doesn't eat sugar either, except for a sugary fruit that goes
on top of the cake. It was delicious, I didn't ask anymore about it
I wouldn't want to hear that it had coconut, or mint or beef, oh shit

Allergies, and then I'm sensitive to gluten, and so is she. I shall get
a small piece and then that will be it. It was delicious, but I did not let
her give me the recipe. Our afternoon was wonderful, we had tea
with lemon and lime. We sat out in the sun on the patio, just the three
of us enjoying the beauty of the day. The leaves were bright red, maple tree
colors, and orange and yellow. Not many browns just yet. We
will see that soon enough. For now, it is getting dark earlier, and we see
the beauty of change. We see the summer fading away, and me
I'm okay with that. Fall is my favorite time of the year. It is when we
harvest our gardens, and collect wild rice, readying for the winter, be
sure to ready for this winter as the critters are saying it will be rough
and we want to be ready as they are readying, and they are tough.

As we sat back and reminisced about this year and then other years.
We joked about our husbands and how they would ready until the tears
were streaming down our faces. I said my hubby will be putting up his fence
to prepare for blowing snow, that would cover the driveway without it.
He changes oil in all the machines, and gets ready by talking about all the shit
there is to do. Then there is past times and what went wrong when he didn't get
the fence up soon enough. The ground was so hard that he had trouble punching a hole, and then, and then, and then, Peggy described the rubble
that needed to be cleaned up, and the garden equipment that needed care
and storage. Always more to care for as there are always more rare
equipment needed for this year and next. We talked about getting by
in our youth without all the specialty equipment our husbands have and why.

Author's Note: Time to close out what was meant to be a short rhyme that turned into a book. Our day was fun and we always say we have to get together more often to cook. Together, we laugh at the husbands and all their funny stories. Love those husbands, that make our lives enjoyable. Time to close!
