The seconds snuck by without notice, now
Tonight, millions of voices sound as one
Announcing their arrival. Shouts and horns
Swelling together in tumultuous
Roars until they drown in bone shaking booms
Petals of light in bloom for the New Year;
Descendants of ancient Chinese flowers.
Far reaching roots spreading throughout more than
A millennium of bewitching skies,
Like the network of veins traced on our skin;
Blue designs coursing with vitality,
Anatomic and more timeworn than bursts
Of tinctured flares. And so we celebrate
A transformation with old traditions
And despite all oaths of resolution
When we’re cut deep we bleed and we bleed red.
