Soul of a Songbird

Remembering Joy

My love of singing blossomed that summer,

Sitting In the driveway against the wall,

Windows propping up the CD player,

Alongside the plum tree, seven years tall.

My steadfast lungs filled with a carefree air,

That I haven’t felt in too many years.

I belted every mastered word with care,

Momentarily escaping my fears.

Oh, that each of us would sing with such pride,

Remember joy, and be wholly immersed.

For it will keep us young and, side by side,

We can be a force in this universe.

That songbird’s soul had the perfect system;

I beg for the return of her wisdom.
