Sorry

Sorry

I hurt you long ago

I left with no fare thee well

Like a thief in the night,

Disappearing without a trace

Or an apology

I am sorry

It wasn’t me

*

I was a monster,

Ranting repeatedly,

Swearing and pointing fingers

I was to blame

I alone caused the pain

I am sorry

It wasn’t me

*

I used you for my pleasure

I cast you aside,

As if you meant nothing

That wasn’t true

I told so many lies

I am sorry

It wasn’t me

*

I was a coward,

Refusing to see your worth

Why was I a thief, a monster, a liar?

I should have known better

But I didn’t

I am so sorry

It wasn’t me

It was the me I used to be.
