Song of the lovely, caged bird

A poem

Although I am caged, I am free.

I cannot escape, but I leave.

I can travel as far as my spirit will take me,

But stuck here thus I will be.

These bars are my hell as my time ticks away.

To the heavens above, I soar every day.

I fear I won't fly and once again feel the breeze,

But my hope remains strong I'll leave this cage with ease.

It travels up through me like a geyser ready to burst,

But I know, this is far from the worst.

I keep my head high and bellow my soul,

One day I'll be saved, that is the goal.

But for now, I sit here alone, trapped in this cage, surrounded with rust.

Someday my song will be heard, long before I turn to dust.
