Somnambulance Chasers

Leaving all the rest

Hide your ghost within a dream,
near close enough to touch.
But ripped away each morning
just before our lips can brush.

As brutal an alternative
for sure no less exhausting:
these ceaseless waking hours
of reality’s accosting.

Still, I’d never sleep again just to
avoid recurring anguish,
of waking absent your warm touch,
live nightmare I can’t banish.
