Sometimes I go quiet—
I must search for solitude.
Escaping from the screams
in my cerebral neighbourhood
You may mistake my silence
as a snub on your behalf
But please, forgive my ignorance
I’m just going quietly mad
A thousand voices tussle—
tug my brain matter, like rope
Head in hands I mutter—
Please be silent or I’ll jump!
A long and lonely battle
Only time will get me through
A week…
A month…
A year…
Then I may get back to you
Sometimes I go quiet,
It’s just part of who I am
So please don’t judge my silence
if I must go quiet again.

For many years I have been battling with the endless chatter inside my head. Today was definitely one of my bad days, but writing this poem has given me some light relief. Thanks for reading.
