Something Rare Indeed
Was there a funeral?
It used to be so common,
You would sense it everywhere.
When people talked,
When words were written,
The conversations shared the knowledge,
And so it passed from one to many.
Now the search is harder.
It is not impossible to find,
But certainly requires effort,
Where once it was inherent.
Too much time kept distant,
Where knowledge becomes forgotten.
Think carefully.
Can you remember?
When was the last time you recall,
That people on the street
Used their built-in guidance system
To make decisions on their own?
It seemed simple then.
Back before the age
Of technology,
Of nightly news reports,
And the constant bombardment
From self-proclaimed experts.
Maybe it is time to unplug.
Time to stare at the stars
And wonder where the world lost its way.
Time to ask the tough questions:
“When did common sense disappear?
And, why didn't I notice its absence?”
