Something is Here

There's a shift in the air

Something is here

interrupting the stillness of atmosphere

I can't see it, only sense it

A glimpse out of my peripheral

dashing in and out of the shadows

Movement so sudden, there and gone the next

it must be a figment of my imagination

cleverly creating unlikely scenarios

scenarios that only exist in horror movies

true crime shows

but surely not here

I hear tapping

just inches behind me

I stop in my tracks to listen

No

more like footsteps

that tread the ground

soft yet calculating

curiosity entices me

to settle my suspicions

but I dare not turn around

I pick up my pace

and attempt to maintain my calm

but the feeling that I'm not alone doesn't cease

Each breeze in the air

each subtle shift

feels like something closing in

like a light touch, breath on the neck

Something is here

Something elusive and clever

and I know it can sense my fear
