Someone's walking over my grave

First Frost

By Novel AllenPublished 11 months ago • 1 min read

In the dead of night...

I walk alone, content...

caring not where I tread or tramp

Darkness, my best friend,

companion in silent commune

peace, no devils tonight

happy - nature adoring.

Hark!

From whence comes this unexpected

chilled prickling of my skin...

body warmth subtly retreating -

I paused, stride faltering - slowing

rudely awakened - into a sudden freeze

Unsettled, my psyche remembers

the words my mother spoke so clearly

but now so cold- like ice-filled omens

Something...mother mused...

or someone...just walked over my grave

sending icy ripples through time and spine…

A sudden shiver,

icy cold - passing through my bones

Old folk superstition comes to life -

over the spot where my grave will one day be.

Tis but a whisper from the future

or a brush with mortality...

an icy predetermination of my living being

sensing a disturbance in the spiritual realm of my soul.

And so this mist-draped figure wandering across a barren field,

becomes aware that beneath my feet glows

the concentric ripples of icy light pulsing outward,

shivering the trees and stirring the air with ghostly echoes.

The soil trembles,

and skeleton leaves beneath the earth glow faintly,

as if dreaming of frost's first arrival.

The sky churns with dark blues and grays,

and the phrase hovers above like a whispered omen.

"Someone walks over my grave, chilling my soul".

First chill and First Frost comes.

The shiver is a warning from the future.

A ripple in time now approaches

Shall we follow the ripple.

Home.
