People wear socks every day,

Some for work, and some for play.

Plain or frilly, stripes or lace,

Any color, any place.

*

Short socks, long socks, soft or thick.

Thermal, argyle, silky, slick.

Socks with pictures or a name.

White Sox, Red Sox, socks of fame.

*

Some will last, some will get runs.

Pippi had some great, long ones.

Nylon, wool, cotton, mohair.

No one likes a holey pair.

*

Just one sock was all it took

To change an oddball in a book.

The sock, given by trickery,

Set the house-elf, Dobby free.
