Social Suicide

poem about the past

I’ve been there before,

where one wrong step leads to a thousand more.

Lend your money, lose your friend -

that’s what they say.

In the past, I never cared

money didn’t mean a thing.

To me,

buying love, buying a friend,

or buying a snack

were all the same things.

I was wrong, so please forgive me.

Others looked at me and laughed.

Shunned and condemned, that was hard.

Never knew the reasons, neither did I.

I put a blame on an absent dad and enabling mom,

but they couldn’t live my life for me.

All I could do was just amiss.

Everything I touched turned into a crash.

After everyone’s touch, I turned to dust,

reversed Midas touch.

Now, when all of this is over,

I gaze at a four-leaf clover,

hoping for better luck

to erase my troubled past

and cover me with a sprinkle so light,

that I will soar freely like a bird

without a care in the world.
